Sea of Life has won 11 awards and screened in over 50 international film festivals. It has been called “groundbreaking” by Earth.com and “provocative” by Ecowatch.
Filmed over three years in seven countries, the documentary follows Julia Barnes on a true-life adventure to learn about the mass extinction facing the ocean and what we can do to stop it. Sea of Life showcases spectacular ecosystems while exposing some of the most pressing issues facing the ocean - industrial fishing, coral bleaching, ocean acidification, and the decline of plankton - as well as global efforts to create positive change.
Sea of Life calls on audiences to rise up and defend the ocean.
About the Filmmaker
Julia Barnes is an award-winning documentary filmmaker based in Ontario, Canada. For as long as she can remember, Julia has loved the natural world. When she realized nature was in serious jeopardy, she decided to take action.
“Rob Stewart's documentary Revolution changed my life. In it, I learned that the world's coral reefs, rainforests, and fish are expected to be wiped out by mid-century. I decided to dedicate my life to activism. I bought a camera, learned to dive, and set out to make a documentary about what’s happening to the ocean. Because a film had a huge impact on me, I wanted to use film to inspire more people to get involved.”
